A home overhaul for entertaining.

When Phil and Jill bought their home, they wanted to transform it into a place where they could entertain. THE IDEA CO renovated about 70 percent of the house—the kitchen, a bath, common areas, and an added sunroom.

What started as a bath remodel became a whole-house update.

After being home and schoolhouse for six homeschooled kids, it was time to update Mike and Debra’s house into a gathering place for the next generation. It started with an upstairs bath. But within the year, THE IDEA CO had completely updated the entire house, upstairs and down, repurposing, expanding, and updating spaces along the way. And, because the family was living in the house during renovation, the crew had to work clean and stay on a tight schedule.

Turning a small bedroom into a luxurious master suite.

The home had a lot of character, but the bedroom serving as the master was a little cramped and lacked closet space. Through ingenuity and expansion, THE IDEA CO turned the space into a modern and comfortable master suite. To start with, we removed the existing closets, making the bedroom more spacious. Then we added a small addition that includes a modern ensuite master bath and a walk-in close, accessible to the bedroom through a barn door. The new edition also has access to the yard, via a small deck.

Bringing the kitchen and living room together makes the whole house flow.

So much about a house starts in the kitchen. For this renovation, the assignment was to take out some walls and make the kitchen “gorgeous.” THE IDEA CO opened walls to the rest of the house, replaced cabinets and appliances, added some touches in the other areas, and added a nine-foot island as a gathering place and generous work space.

Bringing a 1984 kitchen into the 21st Century.

When it came time to upgrade, THE IDEA CO started by taking it to the studs. We built a kitchen with separate spaces, so this cooking couple could work together comfortably. With a central sink, refrigerator to the right, stove to the left, a coffee bar, a butler’s pantry leading to the garage, expansive counters, and additional storage space, the new kitchen is efficient for preparing food and comfortable for entertaining.
